How
can I speed up Windows? |
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
|
1.
Delete all files under C:\Windows\Temp (make sure you close down all
programs first).
2. You may delete all files with the name fileXXXX.chk (where XXXX is
a number, eg file0020.chk) under C:\. Or, add these lines to your Autoexec.Bat
to do the above automatically:
Deltree /y C:\Windows\Temp > NUL
MD C:\Windows\Temp
Del C:\file*.chk > NUL
Cls
3. Run a Defrag on your c:\ drive. This will take a few hours, so it
is best to leave it running overnight.
4. Increase the size of your Swap File:
a) Right click on 'MY COMPUTER'.
b) Select Performance , then Virtual Memory.
c) Specify 'my own settings'.
d) Set the minimum size to at least twice your RAM size. If you don't
know it, set it to 100Mb).
e) Leave the Maximum setting as it is. Click OK. The machine will now
reboot. |

What

Provider)? |

You
should only have Dialup Networking and TCP/IP in the Network Neighbourhood
Control Panel.
You should turn off WINS Resolution in TCP/IP (in the Network Neighbourhood
Control Panel.)
Try changing the modem speed in the Modem Control Panel. Change the
connection speed to 38,400. (Suggested speeds are 56,700 for 56k modems
and 38,400 for slower ones. Try 38,400 for 56k modems if it still doesn't
work). Remove NetBeui and IPX/SPX protocols if they are not used. |
